Brandon’s story

This is Brandon, aged 30 from South Yorkshire. He loves animals, music and drawing. He started with apnoea attacks at 10 days old. These were actually seizures but because he was so tiny they didn't begin presenting as seizures until 17 days old. Unfortunately, genetic panel testing was not available in 1996 so the family was unable to find the cause. He was tested for Angelman syndrome as a child, which was inconclusive. He was then tested for a neuronal migration disorder aged 11, which was normal. He was finally diagnosed with STXBP1 in May 2026 after a new neurologist became involved in his epilepsy care and requested whole genome sequencing.
Brandon is the 3rd child of 4, all boys. All of his brothers have moved out and have children of their own but Brandon likes it when they visit as long they don't make too much noise. He lives with his mother, her husband and our lovely chocolate dobermann.
